THE SEQUELS

Bestsellers in their own right, the two sequels of The Front Runner carry the story up to the present day. The sequels follow ongoing efforts by Front Runner characters to make a life for themselves amid conservative America's growing resistance to the idea of civil rights for gays. Coach Harlan Brown is there, are are star runners Vince Matti and Jacques LaFont, lesbian athlete Betsy Heden, college president Joe Prescott and his wife, two gay Vietnam veterans who go to work as bodyguards, and other vivid characters. Notable is the baby born to Betsy by artificial insemination -- his mother's struggle to raise him as a single mom, and his emerging importance as the heir to "The Front Runner" dynasty.

Patricia Nell Warren is currently working on the fourth and final sequel of The Front Runner, which will bring the story into the post-9/11 era. It is tentatively scheduled for publication at the release of the film version of The Front Runner.
